Putting the U in YoUr Design

One of JEI’s latest creations has inspired this edition of our newsletter. JEIDesign was built around the concept that your interior design is just a superficial fix if it does not include the spirit of the client in its scheme. If there is one component that Julie will not do without in any project, it’s the individuality and personality of those whom will enjoy it.

Whether the interior design strategy is modern or traditional, rustic or downtown, it is imperative (to Julie and her team) that the project reflect the essence of its inhabitants. If you’re considering giving your interiors a facelift, we recommend first digging deep into that creative soul of yours for your inner “room.”

And don’t be shy! Even if what is truly of value to you is Asian elephant ears and hot pink tutus, they should be incorporated into your new space. If anyone can make this happen, while maintaining style and flare, it’s the right innovative Interior Designer.

This particular project lent itself beautifully to this concept. The client purchased a home built in the early 1900s to house the merging of three offices – a green energy company, a charitable foundation and a “think tank” for alternative energy solutions. While it may seem an impossible feat to marry each of these ventures into a cohesive interior interpretation, the team developed a harmonious strategy, encompassing the heart of each occupant.

We began with the client, himself, whose surname in Sanskrit translates to “new light”. As you can see in this photograph, the design crew made it a priority to incorporate sunshine and light imagery and a thematic accent . They were able to make the imagery clear but maintain the mood of the overall design strategy.

The team then decided, after ascertaining the essence of the non-profit org that would dwell within, that the color scheme throughout would be a palette of colors found in traditional Indian motifs, since the charitable entity constructs and improves orphanages in India. A skeptical client watched carefully as it all came together and agreed that the result was not just appropriate, but beautiful.

Before the adorning even began, it was a manifest decision to represent the green energy company’s purpose with an overhaul of environmentally friendly electrics, paints, furniture and energy-saving window treatments. While implementing each of these features into an older home presented more than a challenge or two, decision to make it happen was a no-brainer.

Lastly (but, of course not leastly), as gorgeous and efficient as our offices had become, it was still essential emphasize, in the design throughout, a clean and productive atmosphere for our think-tankers, as well as accessibility and fluidity to facilitate the energetic minds within. This was established with clean lines and graceful furniture placement.

So, from these examples, you can see that your avenues for individuality in your interior design are virtually limitless. You just need the appropriate application of your own personal style and likes. With the right guidance (or just a little bit of luck if you’re the gambling kind), you can have it all- your sophisticated cake and your idiosyncratic icing… all in the same space! Abandon suppressing your abandon and let YOU out into your home.
